Windy
Weather inspires a lot of songs
Weather changes a lot here in Dayton, Ohio. For the most part, it’s not a big deal but I walk a dog twice a day and dressing for the weather is something that needs attention. Since Zoey is a senior, we stop a lot for breaks and I get to play my harmonica as she rests.
“Windy” by The Association always comes to mind when it’s really windy like it has been all weekend. It’s a preppy tune where I get to practice all sorts of breathing, chord changes, notes, etc. No deep story here, just simple word association.
Released in 1967, a year after their break-out hit “Cherish,” which you have probably heard at a wedding the past 30-40 years.
One interesting fact; around the third refrain (I think, memory serves,) listen for a recorder — yup, that thing you learned in the third grade and if you have kids, they learned that once sounded awesome to you as a child, now screeches “Mary Had a Little Lamb.” I have grandkids now, so I keep a stash of them and we learn correct finger placement, embouchure, breathing control… HAHA, no… they screech 😀😀😀 Small steps. They’ll get there.
Same with the harmonica. Once you learn to hear it, you’ll hear it everywhere from Taylor Swift to The Pretty Reckless.
And now, ladies and gentlemen, WINDY! (said in my best Ed Sullivan voice)

Always enjoy when I see 100 Harmonicas come up. I was in high school when this song came out. Just listened to the complete song. When I first heard it in the 60s I thought the name of it was “Wendy”. Of course, thinking it must be a love song about a girl. 😂
Enjoyed your harmonic rendition. Not so much your singing rendition of Cherish. 😂
I did just now notice the recorders in the song. Much better recorder playing than my kids or grandkids.
Thank you for this. Poor Zoey might need to be carried for part of her walk. Age is not kind to our pets or us.
Not boring at all, (though the cat fell asleep)(as she does at least 20 out of 24 hours).
Consider having the little ones play back-up? - like session musicians in training! - when I’d record ours practicing their violins their grandad would slap his forehead when I played it back to him.. but he’s a philistine…
